KINESIO ACU-TAPING

Acu-taping is a new method of pain treatment which offers an alternative to using drugs and works wonderfully with Physical Therapy and Chiropractic. Acu-taping draws its knowledge from traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and the holistic principles of osteopathy. Unlike traditional simple kinesio taping, which primarily tapes the area of pain, the taping protocols used by Ms Bautz are designed to stimulate related acupuncture points as well, combining principles of acupressure and massage for improved healing and pain relief.

HOW DOES ACU-TAPING WORK?

Acu-tape is placed over painful muscles or joints to provide support, relieve pain, and improve lymph drainage, while encouraging full freedom of motion. When a muscle is inflamed or swollen, the space between the skin and the muscle becomes compressed, irritating the muscle's pain receptors. Acu-tape is able to lift the skin away from the underlying muscle, relieving painful irritation. During the course of normal movement throughout the day, the tape provides a gentle but consistent massage to the inflamed area.

Acu-tape is specially designed to be comfortable and convenient

Acu-tape is made of a flexible cotton fabric, with no latex. There is an acrylic glue on one side of the tape. Acrylic glue is thermoplastic, which means that it expands when heated and constricts when cooled. The glue has been put on the tape in waves so that air can permeate the adhesive area and the skin under the tape can breathe. During use, the tape is water permeable, which means that it can be left on when you are in the shower or the sauna. The tape will allow the water to pass thorough it. Because it is water permeable, the tape does not block and the moisture is released through the skin. Sweating or working out with the tape on is not a problem, but immersion in salt water is not good for the tape and will make it fall off the skin fairly quickly. The tape has been designed to allow for a longitudinal stretch of 55-60% of its resting length. This degree of stretch approximates the elastic qualities of the human skin. The tape is not designed to stretch horizontally. The thickness of the tape is approximately the same as the epidermis of the skin. This was intended to limit the body's perception of weight and avoid sensory stimuli when properly applied. After approximately 10 minutes, the patient will generally not perceive there is tape on their skin.
